New Supermarket Coming to Town?

Rumor has it that a Wegman's supermarket will be built on Mt. Pleasant Ave. where it meets Rte 10 E, just south of the Burger King. We could certainly use a good supermarket in town.

Right now, the closest supermarkets are either the Pathmark in Livingston or the Kings in Florham Park. Both stores are rather small compared to the newer supermarkets in the region including the new Shop Rite in Parsippany and the Super Stop & Shop in Morris Plains.

I don't think it would be a problem for East Hanover, Florham Park, Whippany and parts of Livingston to support such a store. Kings, the only supermarket in Florham Park, is a high-end store that really doesn't compete with the average supermarket. Pathmark, the largest of three supermarkets in Livingston, mostly services Livingston and Roseland.

Does anyone know if its going to happen?

We're soliciting comments and information from anyone who knows about - or cares about - a new supermarket in town. The old Varityper location that's being considered is a large and promising location, assuming the intersection can be improved. (It's a nightmare even without a store there that would draw significant traffic.)

If you know anything about this - or have opinions about it - we'd love to hear them and share them with others. Drop us a note!
